Welcome to Our Site

Dr. Lewis was raised in Branson, Missouri. Graduating Cum Laude in 1978 from the University of Missouri-Columbia, College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Lewis is well equipped to take care of all your pets’ needs. He first started practicing veterinary medicine in Nashville, Tennessee, and then moved to Las Vegas before coming to Arkansas. In 1982 Dr. Lewis and his wife, Paulette, established the Jacksonville-Cabot Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Lewis has been a practicing veterinarian for almost 30 years, 25 of which have been at the Jacksonville-Cabot Veterinary Clinic.

In 1984, the Jacksonville-Cabot Veterinary Clinic was certified as an AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) member hospital. An AAHA hospital voluntarily submits to a rigorous inspection process to insure that the highest standards of veterinary care are being provided. Only 14% of the veterinary practices throughout the United States and Canada have made the commitment to participate in the on-site evaluation process to ensure compliance with AAHA standards, and JCVC is one of those practices.  In addition, Dr. Lewis is also a graduate of the AAHA Veterinary Management Institute at Purdue University. The VMI trains veterinarians in the business aspect of veterinary medicine.

In 1989 Dr. Lewis became a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP). The ABVP is a specialty board that certifies veterinarians as specialists in general veterinary practice. In order to become a Diplomate, one must submit papers suitable for publication in a scientific journal, spend two years in intensive study, and successfully pass a rigorous test. ABVP diplomates must also recertify every 10 years. Currently there are three ABVP diplomates in Arkansas.

Dr. Lewis is also PennHIP (Pennsylvania Hip Improvement Program) certified. PennHIP is a program where x-rays are taken of dogs’ hips in order to provide breeding and medical recommendations regarding the potential development of hip dysplasia. PennHIP is by far the best method of dealing with hip dysplasia and in order to participate a veterinarian must be certified.

Dr. Lewis has been married to his wife, Paulette, for 33 years. They have two children, Jessica and Johnny and a son-in-law, Jared Smith. The Lewis family currently has 5 dogs, 8 cats and 3 horses.

Dr. Lewis and his family attend church at First Baptist Church in Cabot, where Dr. Lewis is a member of the music and worship team playing keyboards. Dr. Lewis’ main hobby is music. In addition to playing at church, he has been a member of the Classic Rock band Legacy for the last six years. Other interests and hobbies include flying, riding motorcycles, reading, camping and all historical topics.
